emails with luis lead to things like this
you were working on that collage years ago
i remember seeing it peeking out from under some scattered papers and a smattering of jewel toned jolly ranchers on your desk the one time i went to your house before–remember?
the bomb threat at school and we all had to go
and even though i didn’t know you
there i was
in your room
nothing was glued down back then
joey knocked into it while reaching for some candy
and i noticed the pictures all jiggled around
except the one in the middle
your family was mod-podged down securely
i didn’t think much of it
because of course, i had my own collage to be worried about
i always work with double sided tape
and glitter
but that doesn’t stop me from fitting everyone on
so i was surprised to learn years later that your typical adhesive of choice was nothing more than kindergarden paste
you peel and shuffle with ease
lucky.
and when i got added on to your collage
i got tacked on the edge
we had the running joke about whether or not i was worthy of superglue or not
and for our anniversary you tacked me down with the sort of permanency i had kept my fingers crossed for
so it was pretty shocking to realize that when it was over, you took scissors to my image, and left nothing more but the crook of my arm
